Biography of Mena Suvari

Mena Suvari was born February 9, 1979, in Newport, Rhode Island. Mena Suvari is the daughter of a psychiatrist father and a registered nurse mother. Mena Suvari was recognized by modeling agencies as something very special at an early age. By the age of 12, Mena Suvari was a veteran before the camera and she had signed with the prestigious Wilhelmina Agency.

Mena Suvari early success pointed the way to her future, and by age 17, her family relocated to the West Coast to give her every chance at success. The family moved to Los Angeles and Mena Suvari found a career beyond modeling in her acting, with single episode roles on ER, Minor Adjustments and Chicago Hope. Mena Suvari continued attending school during this time, and fellow students noticed their less than popular classmate turning up in everything they were watching. Mena Suvari graduated from Providence High School in Burbank, California.

Mena Suvari real break through came with her high school portrayal in the big one - "American Pie". Mena was "noticed" for her work in "American Pie" and snapped up for the hugely successful "American Beauty" the same year. People Weekly magazine titled an article about her "All American Girl". Entertainment Weekly magazine declared Mena Suvari as the most "patriotic" artist of 2000 by making allusion to her three consecutive movies "American Pie", "American Beauty" and "American Virgin".

For her role in American Beauty the talented young actor netted a British Academy award nomination, and shared Online Film Critics Society and Theatrical Motion Picture ensemble awards. Mena Suvari was also named a Vanity Fair Star of Tomorrow, and one of YoungHollywood.com's Most Promising Faces.

Mena Suvari most recent project, "Sugar and Spice", puts her back in high school. This new work critically acclaimed for a range that takes her characters from sweet to vulgar, innocent to criminal, Mena has found her calling in acting. Mena Suvari has hopes of a future behind the camera work, directing, writing or producing.

Mena Suvari delights the film industry press by being "best dressed" at every gala. She and new husband, cinematographer Robert Brinkman, kept media flurry down with a quiet wedding and a low key announcement.

Mena Suvari will lend a steady hand for the action film "Domino."

The 25-year-old actress will play a producer's assistant opposite Keira Knightley for the project, which is based on the real-life story of a model-turned-bounty hunter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story centers on the daughter (Keira Knightley) of actor Laurence Harvey, named Domino Harvey, who left her lucrative career as a Ford model to become a bounty hunter.

Mena Suvari had to be covered in insects for her latest movie, 'Trauma'.

The beautiful actress was brave enough to put a spider on her face -although Mena Suvari insisted on a 'mouth double' for scenes when co-star Colin Firth stuffs the creature into her mouth.

Mena Suvari confessed: "I would love to take credit for that scene, but I won't.

There was a mouth double. I guess I could have done it, but I did my share.

The spider actually touched my lips and got very close to being in my mouth."

Mena Suvari also had to be covered in ants for the movie - which remained in her hair even after washing it three times.

Meanwhile, Mena Suvari had to be escorted to the bathroom on the Mena Suvari set - because she was terrified the building was haunted.

The movie was shot in an old London railway station and Mena Suvari was so scared she refused to walk around on her own. Mena Suvari confessed to Britain's The Times newspaper: "Where we were shooting was really creepy. We were in the basement of a huge, ornate, Victorian building.

I always wanted somebody to walk with me when going to the bathroom.

I was scared something was going to pop out."
