Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown" Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur
This is a very good DVD. He was simply mind blowing. Gatemouth gives his sidemen a lot of time to play and do their thing. I just wish that it was two hours rather than one. It's so good I could listen for much longer without getting bored. If you like a bluesy, jazzy, swinging kind of sound this is the one for you. He does some great interpretations of some old Ellington tunes.

Larry Carlton Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur
This concert took place after a recording of the normal Ohne Filter Friday night "live" TV session...I was then the drummer in the Johnny Mars Band and we stayed in the studio to witness Larry and his band record this 1 hour long special....his fabulous music was made at the end of a month long tour in Europe and I am convinced that the music went right over the heads of the majority of the audience (recorded in Sudwestfunk Studio in Baden-Baden)as its jazz/rock theme was then, in 1984, something so energetic and different to German rock music...It so influenced me that I bought a Gibson 335...and I'm a drummer !! I hope the recording has Johnny Mars on it (playing harmonica) as he was as delighted as us to witness this great session.....I still have a tape copy from the playing of the session from 1984 on German TV......Enjoy !! |

Popa Chubby Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur To those of you that like your blues rockin'. buy this DVD! I saw Popa for the first time in 1994 in Bermuda while I was on a cruise ship. He has the goods and put on a great show. A great singer, songwriter and fantastik guitarist. If you like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Johnny Winter you will love this DVD. The concert was culled from a German TV show similar to our Austin City Limits. I wish the DVD was DTS encoded but that's nitpicking. The sound quality is very good. Popa's tone is as Phat as he is. He has a bombastic over the top personality and playing style. He mixes a bit of hip hop influence into his playing. He performs an old Lou Reed song on this DVD. Very Cool. Buy this DVD!

Albert Collins Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur ving seen the Iceman live several times during the late 80's and early 90's including at the Chicago Bluesfest, I have always been on the lookout for a good live video record of his performances, This is one of them. I had originally taped this off of a cable broadcast in the 1989 but having a DVD version vs. a VHSI had to get this. Albert and his band are smoking!
I also bought the Live at the Carnegie Hall concert on VHS from Alligator when it was released and while his and Roy Buchanon and Lonnie Mack's performances on that are great, I just never liked the atmosphere on that video. It's all brightly lit with no color lights like any normal concerts have.
If you are interested in seeing the Iceman perform, buy this DVD, the only drawback is that it's barely an hour long because it was from a TV show.

Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer, Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur Rick Derringer is the best in my opinion, this DVD proves it.
Even on "Hang on Sloppy" he innovates, playing some exciting harmonies on the guitar that make it a whole new song. "I Play Guitar" is great, even the couple mistakes he makes singing only make the song more powerful and authentic. Edgar is extremely talented, showing how much of a master sax playing he really is, but I ,myself, have played guitar in the past and just am in awe of Derringer. The production of the DVD is good with just enough shots of the audience. In closing, I hadn't realized how tall Edgar is, I am wondering exactly how tall he is? Anyway, if you like Edgar or Rick check it out- you will be happy.

Steve Lukather and the Los Lobotomys Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur I have been waiting for the release of a DVD with the Lobotomy's for quite some time. I have had the privilege of seeing them in concert a few times while in L.A. and to be able to pop this DVD in whenever I want and relive the experience is priceless. The production quality is less than stellar, but it's tolerable. If I had one wish, it would have been for a longer performance, but hey, I'll take what I can get. The performance is fabulous, and they even have a cardboard cut-out of Sammy Davis Jr.
on stage for inspiration. Overall, a great DVD!

Duke Robillard Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur This is a fabulous DVD that captures the amazing talents of a blues/jazz player who deserves greater recognition. Many people might ask Duke who? But the music catalogue is rich and varied from this true master. If you want to sit and watch a player with the ability to reach across the genre this is well worth the purchase.
Many in Australia would never have heard of the Duke but his is a talent that needs to be explored by lovers of blues, jazz and swing.

Walter Trout Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur If you''re a blues guitar fan this is worth owning but be warned-there are times you can hardly hear Walter play. A drummer must have mixed the audio.

Rick Vito Live in Concert, "Ohne Filter", Musik Pur This performance from Ohne Filter was recorded on April 25th 2000. Few rock musicians have had such a turbulent career as Rick Vito. The American has added his distinctive slide guitar sounds to performances by Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger and Jackson Browne. Vito's fan base has been growing rapidly since he has been playing his solid brand of mature blues-rock on club stages across the continent with his band Lucky Devils. Tracks include Streamliner, Wouldn't Lay My Guitar Down, Voodoo Woman, When The Big One Comes, Feels Just Like Home, Homework, Carry It On To Rosie, Long Black Car, Another Woman, Little Sheba, Blues Town, Trouble In Trying Times
