Drew Barrymore is the archetypal Hollywood child star who seduced audiences at the age of 6, went into drug rehab at 16 and at 26 was back in the limelight with starring roles in big budget movies, securring the position as one of Hollywood's best loves blonde sweethearts.

Drew Barrymore's career began early. As a baby she acted in TV adverts and her TV-movie debut came at the age of five. Drew Barrymore played Leslie Bogart as a child in Bogie.

It was Steven Spielberg's 1982 blockbuster ET: Extra-Terrestrial that brought cute blonde Drew Barrymore, aged 6 to the attention of moviegoers worldwide.

Drew Barrymore played Gertie, the little girl who welcomes ET into her family.

Many assumed that Drew Barrymore talents would help her blossom into a successful adult actress but these dreams were temporarily laid to rest when Drew Barrymore started drinking at an early age - some even say she was involved with alcohol at nine years old.

Following some average film successes, Drew Barrymore added smoking marijuana onto her list of vices.

Drew Barrymore alcohol and drug abuse lasted through her teens and finally in 1989 she was institutionalised in a rehab centre/mental institution following a failed suicide attempt.

After her treatment, Drew Barrymore lived with musician and recovering addict David Crosby and his wife Jan for almost a year, and at the age of 15, Drew Barrymore filed papers to become legally emancipated from her parents in order to work the same hours as 18-year-olds.

In 1991 Drew Barrymore moved in with film director Tamra Davis and her husband briefly and was offered her first starring role in a feature film soon after.

Poison Ivy was the story of two rebellious teens and their sexual awakening.

Drew Barrymore's cameo appearance in Scream in 1996 brought her back to the attention of audiences and she was immediately cast in the role of Edward Norton's fiancée in Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You.

Her singing voice was dubbed but her acting was critically praised.

Drew Barrymore produced and starred in the hit film version of Aaron Spelling's popular 1970s TV series, Charlie's Angels, playing alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu as the titular trio of private detectives. A sequel is planned entitled Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. In late 2001, Drew Barrymore starred in Penny Marshall's Riding in Cars with Boys. And in March 2003, the actress signed on for 50 First Dates, a romantic comedy co-starring Adam Sandler in which Drew Barrymore plays a woman with no short-term memory. In the summer of 2000, Drew Barrymore became engaged to the eccentric Canadian comic Tom Green, of MTV's The Tom Green Show, who had a cameo role in Charlie's Angels. After many false wedding rumors (some started by Green himself), the pair eloped in March 2001. The couple filed for divorce six months later; the divorce was made final in October 2002. Currently Drew Barrymore is dating Fabrizio Moretti, drummer from the band The Strokes
