Summary:

Fin des années 90, en Sierra Leone. Alors que la guerre civile fait rage, un pêcheur, arraché à sa famille et forcé de travailler dans les mines diamantifères (Djimon Hounsou, impeccable), trouve et cache un diamant rose extrêmement rare. Son trésor est bientôt convoité par un mercenaire et trafiquant (Leonardo DiCaprio) qui lui promet, en échange d’un éventuel partage, de l’aider à retrouver sa famille. Au cours de leur périple, ils profiteront du soutien providentiel d’une journaliste idéaliste (Jennifer Connelly), à la recherche d’émotions fortes et du scoop de sa vie… Plus encore que Lord Of War, Hotel Rwanda ou The Constant Gardener, Blood Diamond allie la force du documentaire pédagogique engagé et l’attrait du divertissement hollywoodien (aventures, romance, action).

The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in African war zones and sold to finance the conflicts and profit the warlords and the diamond companies across the world. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Actor (DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Hounsou). |
