Angelina Jolie Biography
Angelina Jolie born: 4 June 1975, Los Angeles, California, USA
Angelina Jolie appears wholly unconcerned by controversy. Ever-keen to talk about her breakdowns, her disorders, her fantasies and her world-famous penchant for S&M, many would say Angelina Jolie 's built a career on titillating public confession. But Angelina Jolie 's also an increasingly fine and award-winning performer, her Oscar for Girl, Interrupted being only the latest in a string of prestigious honours. Onscreen, as in bed, Angelina Jolie is a risk-taker, and perhaps deserves to be seen as the spiritual sister of such greats as Streep, Pfeiffer and Lange.
Angelina Jolie was born Angelina Jolie Voight in Los Angeles, on June 4th, 1975 - her name meaning Pretty Little Angel. Her father, Jon, was already an established superstar, having topped the bill in such classics as Midnight Cowboy and Deliverance. When Angelina Jolie was 2, he'd scoop the Best Actor Oscar for Coming Home. By then though, he'd already split from her mother, the part-Iroquois actress and model Marcheline Bertrand (now Angelina Jolie 's manager), who'd moved with Angelina Jolie and her brother James to the East Coast - to the Palisades, New York, to be more precise.
Living here, Angelina Jolie was a happy child. Angelina Jolie collected snakes and lizards - her favourite lizard being named Vladimir, and her favourite snake Harry Dean Stanton - and, oddly, like many females of her age, Angelina Jolie had a major crush on Mr Spock. Angelina Jolie would wear glittery clothing, including sparkly underwear, and flounce around, already performing, keen to make people laugh, to make them like her. Angelina Jolie was a member of the Kissy Girls, who hunted boys down and kiss them till they screamed - until the school was forced to call the parents and the gang broke up. Marcheline would take the kids to the movies often, and Jolie claims this is where she got the notion to be an actress - not from her uncle, Chip Taylor (an actor and composer), not from her godmother Jacqueline Bisset, and definitely NOT from her father, though at age 7 she did appear in Lookin' To Get Out, a movie about inveterate gamblers, co-written by and starring Jon Voight.
Angelina Jolie began training and performing at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute at around 12. Angelina Jolie was seen in several stage productions at the Institute. Angelina Jolie worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles, and has also appeared in music videos for such artists as the Rolling Stones, Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, Antonello Venditti and The Lemonheads. In addition, Angelina Jolie has acted in five student films for the USC School of Cinema, all directed by her brother, James Haven. Angelina Jolie landed her first feature film starring part in HACKERS, about a group of high school computer hackers. Previously, Angelina Jolie had roles in independent features Gathering Evidence and Oh No, Not Her.Angelina Jolie was married to her co-star from Hackers, Jonny Lee Miller. The marriage took place in May of 1996 where Angelina Jolie wore black rubber clothes (although they are now divorced). Angelina Jolie has a extensive dagger collection (likes knives) and has several tattoos (one is the Japanese word for death on her shoulder). Today Angelina Jolie splits her time between New York and Los Angeles.

Angelina Jolie voted sexiest woman alive
Angelina Jolie, who manages to mesmerise men and fight off robot invaders with just one eye in her latest movie, has been named the "sexiest woman alive" in the latest edition of Esquire magazine.
Featured as the alluring, courageous fighter pilot with an eye patch in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was the top pick of the magazine's editors and mostly male readers to grace the cover of Esquire's annual "Women We Love" issue.
The 29-year-old, who also lends her voice and sexy persona to a vampish fish named Lola in the computer-animated undersea adventure Shark Tale, received 7 per cent of all votes cast by readers.
Fellow Oscar winner and Catwoman star Halle Berry ran a close second with 6 per cent.
Newlywed pop princess Britney Spears made the cut this year at number three.
In an interview accompanying a cover photo of the actress, Angelina Jolie acknowledged her image as being "kind of wild or bad or weird or crazy".
"The tattoos, the blood, cutting myself - it's all very much who I am," Angelina Jolie said.
"If you knew me privately, you might think I was even wilder than my reputation.
"But I'm also much softer. I'm a soft woman. Softer than people think."
Angelina Jolie also reveals that she recently bought an aeroplane and is taking flying lessons, a hobby she is embracing because she and her three-year-old adopted son share a fascination with planes.
"I have to concentrate on my son," she said.
"That's why I have lovers right now and not a boyfriend. I don't want my son to start calling somebody 'Daddy' unless that person's gonna stay."
Angelina Jolie's marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton ended in divorce in May 2003.
Angelina Jolie will next be seen as Alexander the Great's mum in Oliver Stone's upcoming epic Alexander.
Rounding out the field of leading contenders for sexiest woman in the magazine's November issue, are TV/pop personality Jessica Simpson, sultry R&B singer Beyonce, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron and former Friends star Jennifer Aniston.
Angelina Jolie Adopts Child
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie quietly visited several orphanages in Moscow last week and reportedly picked a 7-month-old boy named Gleb to adopt.
Angelina Jolie, 29, earlier adopted a Cambodian boy, Maddox, 3.
Angelina Jolie's visit was organized with the help of Lyubov Selyavina, deputy head of Moscow's education department, and lasted several days.
Angelina Jolie"met with Lyubov Konstantinovna [Selyavina] and went to the children's homes with Lyubov Konstantinovna," said Valentina Vasyayeva, an official in the education department.
Selyavina was unavailable for comment and out of the office until Friday, an education department spokeswoman said.
Angelina Jolie's representatives could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Angelina Jolie chose Gleb, a fair-haired, blue-eyed boy, in Children's Home No. 13, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported Saturday.
The director of Children's Home No. 13, Yulia Talypova, declined to say whether Jolie had stopped by but denied that she would adopt a child from the orphanage. "She is not going to do this," Talypova said by telephone.
Given a description of the boy, she said, "We don't have a baby like that."
But Talypova acknowledged that if an adoption was to take place, she could not comment because adoptions are confidential under the law.
Officials at several orphanages confirmed that the actress had dropped in to meet with children, Komsomolskaya Pravda said.
"Angelina Jolie is a very ingratiating woman," a representative of Children's Home No. 22 was quoted as saying. "Unfortunately, none of our orphans attracted her because they are mostly from the south, and the actress wanted only a boy of Slavic appearance."
The unidentified official said Angelina Jolie had dressed modestly and worn black.
Angelina Jolie last visited Russia in August 2003 as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. During the trip she asked about the rules for international adoptions, Russian media reported at the time.
The UNHCR in Moscow was unaware of Jolie's latest visit, spokeswoman Vera Soboleva said.
Angelina Jolie, the star of movies such as "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds," is a single mother after splitting up with second husband Billy Bob Thornton last year. The couple adopted Maddox in March 2002.
Angelina Jolie last week also visited young former hostages from Beslan in a Moscow hospital and donated toys and money to them, Komsomolskaya Pravda said.
Oscar winner Angelina Jolie has revealed that despite the fact that she is known as something of a wild person and actually likes to live life on the edge, she does have a softer side which she does not show to too many people.
Angelina Jolie, who is known for her action packed roles in movies like 'Lara Croft' and 'Mr and Mrs Smith' said that she has become a much softer person after adopting her Cambodian son Maddox, reports the Daily Mail.
"The tattoos, the blood, cutting myself - it's all very much who I am. But as a mother of a three-year-old, I'm also a soft woman. Softer than people think," Angelina Jolie said.
Angelina Jolie in Taking Lives
There's nothing particularly bad about Taking Lives - at least if there was a cement mixer somewhere to fill in the plot holes. In many ways it's an above average thriller about a serial killer being hunted by lovely FBI agent Angelina Jolie, who manages to be far more alluring than any FBI agent has the right to be. There's several shocks worthy of making you jump out of your seat, a generous and tasty smattering of gruesome body parts, a car chase, explosion and some nudity.
It's main flaw perhaps is that it goes on far too long, and our suspension of disbelief is teetering too precariously for comfort. The basic premise is that the serial killer escapes detection by taking on the identity of his victims. We get some very brief overview shots suggesting how he maybe achieves this from a technical point of view, but when the expected twist at the end outstays its welcome, we start asking ourselves if the main plot was actually believable.
Entertaining enough if your expectations aren't too high, but one does wonder when Angelina Jolie is going to take on roles worthy of her not inconsiderable acting ability after this.
Angelina Jolie Adopts Russian Baby
Angelina Jolie has adopted a second baby, this time from Russia. Angelina Jolie chose blond haired, blue-eyed Gleb after visiting several orphanages in Moscow.
A source from the orphanage revealed: "He is just what Angelina Jolie saw in her dreams. "She took him in her arms and kissed him." The seven-month-old baby will join 3-year-old Maddox in a few months once the adoption is finalized. Adorable Maddox was adopted as a baby from Cambodia.
Angelina Jolie bought Baby
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, in Moscow to adopt her second child, reportedly paid a poor Russian mother for a newborn baby.
The alleged transaction occurred after the Lara Croft actress learned it could take six months to adopt a child she was rumored to want, 7-month-old Gleb, from a Russian orphanage, Britain's Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
The boy's mother got a hefty amount of money for it. Miss Angelina Jolie made a secret agreement with her and she got her baby several days after (the money) was delivered. The baby is already in America with her and it was registered in its new mother's name to avoid a lot of paperwork, Moscow's Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reported.
Russian adoption officials reportedly will visit Angelina Jolie's Hollywood home to check on the baby, the Daily Mail said.
Angelina Jolie adopted her first son, Maddox, now 3, from Cambodia.
SNAKE CHARMER
In her latest movie, Angelina Jolie plays a scheming matriarch with a penchant for snakes. But in real life the actress has no great affection for the creatures, so it must have come as something of a shock when she was presented with a huge boa constrictor on the set of a German talk show.
Angelina Jolie, appearing with her "Alexander" co-star Colin Farrell, was handed the serpent by host Thomas Gottschalk. However, while she gamely petted the boa, the Oscar-winner - whose "Alexander" character Olympias carries a snake with her at all times - said she prefers pets of the four-legged variety. In fact, she said the role was nerve-racking.
"Of course I was scared," Angelina Jolie said. "I repeatedly asked the snake keeper, 'Please feed the snakes well.' But one day he just poured a whole container full of snakes onto my head, saying I should get used to them. Now, I understand them, though I don't love them."
